Rumor has it...

Georgetown County has announced plans for the new parks in Pawleys Island and Litchfield, which will be a tremendous asset to our area.  The parks will be done in phases and are to be completed by 2014. This is all part of the county’s $77,000,000 Recreation Capital Improvement Plan.

The design plan is for 2 recreational parks, listed below with their individual features.

The Stables Park is intended to contain the following elements:

20 tennis courts, Tennis Stadium Court, 5 Soccer Fields, Social Pavilion, Picnic Shelters, Dog Park, Pedestrian Trails, Interpretive Center

The Waccamaw Park project will lay claim to 5 Baseball Fields, Boardwalk, Pedestrian Walkways, Restrooms, Concessions

More exciting news: Georgetown County will be hosting two Dixie Softball World Series Tournaments in 2012, at the new parks.  Per Beth Goodale, The Dixie Youth Softball Committee has voted and the county will be the host of the 2012 Dixie Youth Angels and Darlings World Series!  Goodale is director and Paul McCulloch is recreation manager for the Georgetown County Recreation and Leisure Services Department. The hundreds of players, families, friends and fans are likely to bring about a million dollar boost to the local economy!

This ever-evolving area has managed to maintain the original laid-back Low Country appeal and lifestyle, while growing to accommodate the flux of tourists and new residents.  The warm ocean water and great fishing continue to lure visitors and locals alike. Golfing along the Grand Strand is as wonderful as ever, with enough variety that you could play a different course almost everyday.  The bicycle trail through Litchfield is continuing to be extended, and will supposedly one day meet the 20 mile mark.

Becoming a resident of the area has many great perks, such as the great year-round ‘locals discount’ at many businesses & restaurants, which are even better and more common in the off-season!

As if there aren’t enough reasons to move to this area; the beaches, the endless dining, golfing, fishing, shopping, social events, leisurely activities and good ole southern hospitality could add a little incentive.  If you haven’t seen what we have to offer, take a week or a weekend and come see what makes it the GRAND Strand.
